Many of us are looking forward to having the next four days off! What a treat. Where the hell did March go? There was so much going on, from St Patricks day to the Oscars to the Taoiseach resigning, FG appointed their youngest ever leader, the Six Nations, Cheltenham, International Women’s Day, the referendums, phew, we could go on but let’s look forward to a nice break and reset for now.
What’s new for April? The clocks go forward next week, bringing longer evenings, better weather and spring cleans! It also means holidays to be looked at, festival tickets to book and Q2 goals to consider. And the CIMA Annual Dinner on the 26th April, of course!
The ERSI released their latest report – listen here to a short interview on Newstalk – good news, the economy is in rude health heading into the next couple of years. Low levels of unemployment, inflation on the decline. The issue – we are now too successful apparently. Insert face palm emoji!

For this month’s infographic we are showing the locations around the world where Ireland’s ministers and other politicians visited. This international profile (which most countries would give their eye-teeth for) contributes enormously to our enviable foreign direct investment success.
Last month we discussed the phenomenon of people getting jobs that are never advertised through networking and proactive recruiters who have the ‘ear’ of employers and know what CVs they can pitch to them. This month we asked our Principal, Rachel Tubridy about the upper echelon of recruitment, headhunting! Everybody is familiar with the term: I wonder how many of our readers have been headhunted? We here at PeopleSource have certainly been retained over the years to find that all important hire.
If you want to be headhunted some day (even if you don’t take the job, it’s always a great compliment) have visibility as your watchword. To be found, you must be findable! Revisit your LinkedIn profile, how up to date is it and does it reflect your current responsibilities and achievements? Presence and activity are not sufficient: are you seen as a thought leader, are you invited to speak at industry events, do journalists contact you for quotes and insights? These are all key areas that potentially set you apart as an industry leader and get you noticed. Consider also getting involved with industry related networks and representative bodies. In short, if you want to be head-hunted, you have to put your head above the parapet!
Ireland was very well represented again this Oscar season with Cillian Murphy winning the top prize. Congratulations to him and to Element Pictures with their four Oscars for Poor Things. Mr Murphy is also going to star in the Peaky Blinders the movie, set for release mid 2025. We are very nervous about this project as very few series translate well to the big screen. Think Sex in the City, eeeeek!
Any opinions on the alleged new James Bond? This BBC article lists a few contenders.
Finally, fair play to Olivia Coleman broaching the gender pay gap. We don’t see too much of it with our clients. They usually provide a salary banding and just want the best candidate, but then again, accountants know how to negotiate in our opinion!
Well done Ireland on back-to-back 6Nations Championships and to the U20’s who had another magnificent campaign only to be pipped by England for the title. The Women’s 6Nations is now underway, support them in every way you can, please!
Cheltenham was a great event for the Irish again this year, winning 2/3 of the races and almost all the Grade 1s. Willie Mullins alone won more races than all the British trainers combined. I’d say there is mild concern about the Irish dominance. Next up the Grand National - fun fact 29 of the 34 horses are Irish!!! – will your office be doing a sweep?
In footie news, April will see us find out who will be contesting the Champion’s League Final while the Premiership will be bubbling nicely towards a close (are Man City really going to be booted out over financial irregularities?). Ireland’s men’s and women’s teams have secured new sponsors in Sky, let’s hope it brings them luck as well as resources!
April of course, means The Masters is with us again. Here in Ireland we will be inundated with updates on Rory’s form, his history at Augusta and why he will (or won’t) win this year. Nice to see Shane Lowry coming into a run of form at just the right time. Whatever the outcome, it makes for riveting viewing, for golf fans, and even the casual viewer.
This may not be the month you get head-hunted, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a new role out there for you!
